Step 5. Configuration of the EkranServer role in the Failover Cluster

To monitor the health of not only the failover cluster node that is currently being used, but also the EkranServer service running on it, a role needs to be created for this service in the Failover Cluster Manager.

To create a role for the EkranServer services, do the following:

1. Open the Server Manager for the first instance of the Application Server.

2. On the Tools menu, select Failover Cluster Manager.

3. In the Failover Cluster Manager window, expand the failover cluster in the left pane, and select Roles, and then in the Actions pane, click Configure Role.

4. On the Select Role page, click Generic Service.

5. On the Select Service page, select EkranServer.

6. On the Client Access Point page, enter a name for the role and its IP address (these identifiers will be used for Clients and the Management Tool to connect to the Application Server service via the network).

7. On the Replicate Registry Settings page, click Add, and enter the Application Server registry key: SOFTWARE\EkranSystem.

8. On the confirmation step, click Finish to complete creation of the role.

9. In the Failover Cluster Manager window, expand the failover cluster in the left pane, and select Roles.

10. In the Roles pane, select the role created for the EkranServer service.

11. In the Actions pane, select Properties.

12. In the window that opens, on the Failover tab, specify the Maximum failures in the specified period and the Period (hours), and then click OK.

13. You can see the status of the role that has been created in the Failover Cluster Manager.

To verify that switching between the nodes works correctly, do the following:

1. Open the Server Manager for the first Application Server instance.

2. On the Tools menu, select Failover Cluster Manager.

3. In the Failover Cluster Manager window, in the left pane, expand the failover cluster node, and click Roles, and then select the role created for the EkranServer service, and click Move in the Actions pane.

4. Click Select Node.

5. Select another node with an Application Server instance installed.

6. You can see that the role owner has now changed to the selected node. The EkranServer service on the previous node has stopped, and it has started automatically on the new node (new role owner).
