General Licensing Information
A product serial key must be activated before the licenses it contains can be used.
NOT AVAILABLE IN SAAS The serial key can be activated (or updated) online (this requires that the computer with the Ekran System Application Server installed has Internet access), or added (or updated) offline (if the computer with the Ekran System Application Server does not have an Internet connection).
To start receiving data from Clients of user activity monitored on them, licenses first need to be assigned to the Clients. The following types of licenses for Clients are available in serial keys:
Client License Type | Operating System | Max. Number of Concurrent Sessions Recorded |
Workstation | • Windows desktop • macOS • Linux/Unix Server (incl. X Window System) | 1 |
Infrastructure Server | • Windows Server • Linux/Unix Server (incl. X Window System) | 2 |
Terminal Server | • Windows Server with Terminal Services (Remote Desktop Services), with Citrix Server, or with Published App Server - including for use on a Client computer functioning as a jump server (PAM gateway) to access secrets • Linux/Unix Server (incl. X Window System) | Unlimited |
Terminal Server (Limited sessions) | • Windows Server with Terminal Services (Remote Desktop Services), with Citrix Server, or with Published App Server - including for use on a Client computer functioning as a jump server (PAM gateway) to access secrets • Linux/Unix Server (incl. X Window System) | As purchased |
NOTE: Licenses of the Workstation type cannot be assigned to a computer with Windows Server OS installed on it.
NOTE: For Linux Clients, if you only need to monitor Linux GUI X11 (X Windows System) sessions on them, you can also assign licenses of the Workstation type to them, but only one Linux GUI session can be monitored at any time, and remote SSH Linux sessions cannot be monitored in this way. All workstations (Linux GUI X11, macOS and Windows) can use the same license pool. SELinux Clients require licenses of either the Infrastructure Server or Terminal Server types.
NOTE: Each Client can only have one license assigned to it. The first time the Client connects to the Application Server, the license corresponding to the Client computer's operating system is automatically assigned to the Client. In case, for any reason, it is not automatically assigned, the license needs to be assigned to the Client manually.
NOTE: For effective use of floating endpoint licenses, make sure you assign the appropriate type of licenses (Workstation, Infrastructure Server, Terminal Server, or Terminal Server (Limited Sessions)) to your Clients, depending on your network configuration. When the appropriate type of license is not available, a license of a “higher” type can be assigned instead (e.g. a Terminal Server license can be assigned instead of a Workstation license or an Infrastructure Server license).
